If you meet the tests to be claimed as a dependent, you must check the box that says "I can be claimed as a dependent" even if you don't want to be. Failing to check that box in order to claim a stimulus rebate is tax fraud. If you can't be claimed as a dependent, you are legally entitled to the payment (up to $1800 depending on your income) and it will be added on line 30 of your tax return.
