Deductions when I have to live 400 miles from my home for work
I accepted another job that is 400 miles from my home but still within my home state. I have rented a home + utilities & insurance where I live during the week. This position is a stepping stone to a higher position. I anticipate a 1-2 year length of employment in this position before returning to my home. I commute every week + travel extensively while I am in this position. I had to lease a vehicle as well in order to commute. I intend to purchase the vehicle at the end of the lease so mileage limitations are not a consideration. I am not reimbursed for any of the home costs or commuting since I am at a professional level. Can I consider this rental home a home office since I do work from it in addition to my office? What deductions do I qualify for? When I am at my true home during the weekends and holidays, I also use part of my home as an office which we have historically claimed.
