combat injured veterans tax fairness act 2016
I am divorced from a soldier. He got to amend our 2007 taxes to take advantage of the combat injured veterans tax fairness act 2016. The 1099INT was issued from the Treasury Department to my social... presumably because we filed joint in 2007 and my social was listed first. We have been divorced for over 10 years, and I feel that 1099INT should have been issued to him as he got the money (which is only right for our veterans). I have been battling the IRS since they said I owe them $5k back for not claiming the interest. Is there a way to contact the Dept of Treasury to get the 1099 INT reissued in my ex husbands name? Are there any military advocates that can help me? Are there any other former military spouses who have been victim of this?
