Tax help for military filers
Q. My child joined the military and left for basic in September 19, 2022, does that mean she only lived with me for 9 months?
A. No. While a child is doing military training, they are only considered temporarily absent form your home. They are still considered living with you until they get their "permanent assignment.
But as other have said, they only need to have lived with you more than half the year to qualify as a "qualifying child" dependent.
