Tax help for military filers

What you've done so far is correct.  File your federal taxes jointly.

Your home of record is Texas for both of you, and if they had a tax it would all be taxed there.  Now you will need to prepare a Non Resident North Carolina return for your wife.  You will have an option to show what your income was.  Your military income is not included.  Only the amount she earned in North Carolina is taxable in North Carolina.

We are always here to help if you need us, bust as a member of the military family, you can obtain 100% free access to tax consultants and financial counselors with military expertise. Contact Military OneSource anytime, 24/7 at

800-342-9647 to take advantage of this benefit.
