Retirement tax questions
I don't think you need to file a tax return.
In a previous news release, the IRS said:
IRS.gov/coronavirus will soon provide information instructing people who are otherwise not required to file a tax return, on how to file a 2019 tax return with simple, but necessary, information including their filing status, number of dependents and direct deposit bank account information.
Earlier tonight, according to news reports:
Social Security recipients won’t need to file tax returns to receive the $1,200 one-time payments authorized in the new economic-relief law, the Treasury Department said late Wednesday in a reversal of its prior position.
