Retirement tax questions
Hello: I think with caught a major problem. When we said we checked our return we were correct: SCHEDULE 2 Additional Taxes (Form 1040 or 1040 SR) was NOT visible during tax preparation, only when we printed the entire return. As we returned to the preparation pages this was not found. Only when we clicked on the upper right corner of the screen and clicked on "Forms" did we finally saw it. On this page, under Part II Other Taxes 8 box c was checked, Instructions: enter code UT 14, 892. WE DID NOT HAVE SELF-EMPLOYMENT INCOME IN 2019 CONSEQUENTLY WE CANNOT HAVE $14,892 AS TAX. Just this error reduced our total federal tax: $16,970 - $14,892 = $2,138. This page was not visible during calculations, no idea how this amount was created and entered in SCHEDULE 2. We could not change, remove the erroneous tax amount.. We will continue calculating our State Tax to determine whether anything entered there will further modify (reduce?) the $2,138.
