Retirement tax questions
To qualify for a Qualified Charitable Distribution, your birthdate in TurboTax needs to show that you are at least 70 1/2 years old during the tax year. The distribution also needs to be from an IRA/SEP/SIMPLE account and the box checked on the 1099-R and in TurboTax.
Box 7 should have code 7. As you go through the questions there is one that asks if this is a transfer to charity if you meet the above qualifications.
If you pick the all or part of the distribution went to a qualified charity then that amount that was transferred to the charity is not taxable.
