Retirement tax questions
Form 1099-R has a box 3 that shows the amount of capital gain included in Box 2a, the taxable amount of the distribution.
If you have an amount in Box 3 of your 1099-R, it will be reported as a capital gain.
if you do not have an amount in Box 3, you should check your 1099-R entries to be sure you did not enter an amount by mistake.
