Retirement tax questions

The portion of your salary that is designated as housing for being a pastor is subject to self-employment tax. You pay the social security portion of your housing allowance by paying self-employment tax.

Form 1040 Line 57, Self-employment tax is where you see the total self employment tax you need to pay. The calculation of the self-employment tax is found on Schedule SE.

There are a few different ways to enter your housing allowance so TurboTax can calculate the self-employment tax on your housing allowance. How you enter your housing allowance depends on whether your housing allowance is reported on Form W-2, Form 1099-MISC, or 1099-R.
