Retirement tax questions

Since you moved during the year, you will report your retirement income to each state based on your part-year residency in each state.

The federal law prohibits any state from taxing pension income of non-residents, even if the pension was earned within the state.

This means that even though you earned the retirement income as a NJ resident, once you left the state, you are no longer required to report any retirement income in NJ after the date you were a part-year resident of NJ
