Retirement tax questions
This is correct. You should have received a 1099-R (for retirement) for both your IRA and and your corporate pension. They are entered same area of TurboTax, but will be reported on different lines on your return:
- Form 1040 Lines 15a and 15b for the IRA and Form 1040 Lines 16a and 16b for your Pension or
- if you file a 1040A, they will appear on Lines 11a and 11b for the IRA and Lines 12a and 12b for the Pension.
To enter a 1099-R, please follow these instructions:
- Open (continue) your return in TurboTax.
- In the TurboTax search box, type "1099-R" and press the Enter key, then choose the "Jump to 1099-R" link.
- On the Your 1099-R screen, choose Yes next to "Did you have any of these types of income in 2017?" and select Continue.
- Choose the radio button next to "I'll type it in myself" and select Continue
- Follow the prompts to enter your 1099-R form and finish the interview.
