I am on social security disability. On my SSA-1099 there is a work sheet on the back. It says to divide the income from box 5 in half. You then add your other income like 1099-R's from pensions. This total gives me my total taxable income for the year. However, in Turbo Tax there is no place to duplicate what the SSA is letting me do. They only want the FULL amount of box 5 from my SSA-1099 which increases my taxes owed by over $2000. Why can I not cut my SSA income in half on Turbo Tax like the government is letting me do?
