No, it is not reported when earned. Only the distributions are reported.
"The activity inside your IRA, even if it results in significant losses or gains, is not reported.
The only IRA transactions you need to report are contributions, withdrawals, rollovers, conversions, or inheritances. Your IRA custodian will send you a 1099-R if you need to report anything."
