Required Minimum Distribution 1099R

I retired from the Amer Red Cross...a nonprofit with a Defined Benefit Program.  I get a monthly pension.  I do NOT think it is an RMD.  Can I check the box indicating the $15,154 I received was NOT an RMD and avoid any penalty???
