Retirement tax questions

The state fields of Form 1099-R are often blank. Don't put a $0 for a blank. If you don't have entries in the state boxes, just leave it blank.

Generally, your resident state automatically taxes your worldwide income. So, having the state information completed on a 1099-R is unnecessary. You will automatically be taxed by the state that you live in, as that state reports all the income you have for the year. The federal income automatically flows to your state return whether you have anything in these 1099-R boxes or not.

If your state has retirement income exclusions or deductions, this will also be handled by Turbo Tax.
