Retirement tax questions
If you've already filed your return, you can amend it to reflect your IRA contributions. Keep in mind that only contributions to a traditional IRA are deductible on your return. Contributions to a Roth IRA are not.
You'll have to wait a bit to amend your 2016 return because the federal amended return (1040X) and a lot of state amendment forms are not yet final.
The IRS has not yet finalized the amended return (1040X) -- it is usually available in February. Please see this FAQ for Federal forms availability. For additional information on filing an amended return please see the following FAQ: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3288565
