Retirement tax questions
You would still file married filing jointly. Since you have a business, you also have to complete Schedule C with your 1040 return. You will need to use TurboTax Sellf-employed (Online) or TurboTax Home & Business (CD/Download)
The 1099-MISC form is a form reporting income you earned as an independent contractor. It's similar to a W-2, if you were an employee.
If you received a 1099-MISC, please follow these steps to enter income for your business:
- Click on Income and Expenses and then click the Start/Revisit box in the Self-Employment section.
- On the Your 2018 self-employed
work summary screen, click on Edit next to your business.
- On the Here's your [business] info screen, click on the box Add income for this work.
- On the next screen, Let's get any additional income, mark the button for the income source [ 1099-MISC, Additional income, etc. and click the Continue box.
- Continue through the screens, entering your business income.
To enter your expenses, please follow these steps:
- On the Here's your [business] info screen, click on the box Add expenses for this work.
- On the Tell us about any expenses screen, scroll down through the categories, marking the appropriate radio buttons and click Continue at the bottom of the screen.
