Retirement tax questions

If you do not believe you will receive the form from them by the due date,  7/15/2020,  I would suggest you to use your pay stub or any related statement to do an estimate and file a substitute W-2. ( See blue link below)  Note that IRS will be receiving a copy of your Form W-2 if there is one.  By you reporting an estimate on your taxes, you will likely carry the minimal interest or penalty incurred upon any adjustments made from IRS.  If you have already filed,  you will have to wait until your return is either rejected or approved.

  • If it's rejected, you can return to the program to add the new information while fixing the error.
  • If your return is approved, you would need to amend if adding the new income changes your original refund amount or tax due.  Come back later to this link 2019 Amend to see if you need to amend.  If you do need to amend, wait until your return is fully processed and you have received your refund or your payment has cleared.  See instructions how to add a substitute W-2 to your amendment Substitute W-2
