Retirement tax questions
If you are required to file a return, you will need to report the social security income on your return.
Social security income is only taxable if one half of your social security income plus your other income is greater than the base amounts of 32,000 dollars for married joint filers or 25,000 dollars for single filers. Married separate filer's social security income is always taxable regardless of whether they have other income or not.
