Filing tax if you are expecting 1099R with excess contribution
Hi, I have made excess contribution to 401k in 2016 and did not file taxes yet. I see that my 401K company detected the excess contribution in Feb 2017, did a withdrawal and I see they will be generating a 1099R which will come at end of 2017 .
Can I go ahead and enter the 1099R for 2016? If so, what code should I use in Box 7, should it be code 8(current year)?
