Retirement tax questions
For 2025, there's a senior citizen enhanced deduction of up to $6,000 available for taxpayers aged 65 or older.
This deduction is in addition to the higher standard deduction for seniors and phases out if your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) exceeds $75,000 for single filers or $150,000 for married filing jointly.
TurboTax should automatically apply this deduction during your tax return preparation if you entered your age and income correctly and meet the eligibility.
If TurboTax isn't including it, double-check that your birthdate and income information are accurate in the program. Also, ensure your filing status is not Married Filing Separately, as this deduction isn't allowed then.
