Retirement tax questions

Form SSA-1099 reports Social Security benefits you received during the tax year. It reports the total benefits amount received.  Follow these steps:

  

  1. Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  2. Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  3. Scroll down to Retirement plans and Social Security, click the down arrow to the right.
  4. Click on Start/Revisit to the right of Social Security (SSA-1099).
  5. At the screen Tell us about the benefits you received, enter the information as it is printed on the form.

The program will calculate how much, if any, of your Social Security benefits are taxable based on your inputs.
