Retirement tax questions

No - Social security and railroad retirement benefits are not subject to NC State income tax.

No - Your federal retirement will not be taxed as long as the retiree had "five or more years of creditable service as of August 12, 1989."  [the Bailey Decision]

If you do not fall under the provisions of Bailey v. State of North Carolina decision, your Federal retirement WILL be taxed
