Retirement tax questions
Yes, this is how it is reported in TurboTax.
- Go to Wages & Income > Retirement Plans and Social Security (1099-R).
- Edit your state pension 1099-R.
- Continue past the main box entries until you see a screen titled "Do any of these uncommon situations apply?"
- Check the box for "This money is from being a Public Safety Officer."
- The next screen will specifically ask for the amount of health insurance premiums you paid (up to $3,000).
Since you've already filed and the $3,000 reduction wasn't applied, you will need to file an Amended Return (Form 1040-X).. The amended form is not available until 2-25, so you will need to wait for this. Here is how to file once it's available.
How to Start the Amendment (1040-X) After 2-25
TurboTax Online:
- Log in and go to your Tax Home.
- Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and select 2025.
- Select Amend (change) return and then Amend using TurboTax Online.
TurboTax Desktop:
- Open the tax file you already filed.
- Go Federal>other tax situations
- Other Tax forms
- Select Amend a Filed Return
