Retirement tax questions

Switch out of Forms Mode and go back to Step-by-Step

 

  1. Go to Federal > Wages & Income > Retirement Plans and Social Security.
  2. Find your 1099-R entry (even if you don't have one for the missed RMD, you can use the "Other Tax Situations" > "Additional Tax on Qualified Plans" path).
  3. Answer "Yes" to the question "Did you miss a Required Minimum Distribution?"
  4. When it asks for the explanation in the big text box, type it there.
  5.  When you enter it in the interview, the data is saved and will show up in the Smart Worksheet in black text instead of red, which means there’s no error..
