Retirement tax questions
You might want to consider deleting the New Jersey return in TurboTax and starting over. To do that, follow these steps:
- Click on Your State Returns under State Taxes on the left side menu.
- Click the trash can icon to the right of Continue.
- You will be asked if you want to delete the return - click on Delete
- Click on "+Add another State", then select New Jersey
You will then proceed through with working on your New Jersey return again.
As you step through the screens of New Jersey a screen titled "New Jersey College Affordability Deduction" will be followed right after "Any Medical Expenses?".
Since the Affordability Deduction screen in TurboTax will not appear if your gross income is above $200,000, just check to be sure that it is not. You can check the total income by clicking on Federal Review, going through the review and fixing any errors and click until you get to a screen talking about your refund/balance due. This will have a summary of your total income.
