Retirement tax questions

The catch-up is affected in the same way as the general contribution limit.

If you enrolled effect April 1, then your allowable total contribution for 2025 if you are covered by a single HDHP is

$4300 ÷ 12 x 3 months = $1075

Plus

$1000 ÷12 x 3 months = $250

for a total of $1325.

If you are covered by a family HDHP, your enrollment limit is $2137.50 plus $250 = $2387.50.

There is one limit for the year, calculated from both your general limit and the catch-up amount, based on the number of months you were eligible.  If you only contributed $1000, then you are under either limit.  If you contributed $1000 plus other money, you might be over, see above.
