Retirement tax questions
@jscaemmerer , while I need to do more "looking into " how UNJSPF works, I am pretty confident that
(a) you have to recognize the pension distributions just like any foreign private pension distribution i.e. utilizing dummy 1099-R, foreign administrator etc.
(b) IRS Pub 575, especially page 10 on how to compute taxable portion ( i.e. account for after tax contributions made by you ) is generally the guiding document
What I am lacking in knowledge is how to treat your contributions that were made by a US person but posted in a foreign country ( if that is your case ) or if you were an NRA at least for a part of your tenure with the UN. Obviously your case may not pertain to these scenarios i.e. a US person, working for UN and always taxed by the US.
While I educate myself a little bit more on this , --- (a) does the above help you or you need more specific help and (b) is there more I can do for you ?
Should I assume that your tax-home is US ?
Look forward to hear from you --yes ?
