Retirement tax questions
You can have TurboTax track your Roth basis in the IRA contribution interview:
- Click on "Search" on the top right and type “IRA contributions”
- Click on “Jump to IRA contributions"
- Select “traditional IRA” and "Roth IRA"
- Answer questions in regard to your traditional IRA
- On the "Roth IRA Contributions" screen answer "No"
- On the "Did You Open a Roth IRA Before 2024?" answer "Yes"
- On the "Let Us Track Your Roth IRA Basis" screen answer "Yes"
- enter the net contributions prior to 2024 on the "Enter Prior Year Roth IRA Contributions" screen
- On the "Any Roth IRA Conversions?" screen answer "Yes" if you made conversions before 2024 (these will go on line 24 of Form 8606 if you took a nonqualified Roth IRA distribution in 2024.)
- Continue through the questions.
You 2024 conversion is automatically be added to line 24 of Form 8606 when you enter the Roth conversion in TurboTax and took a nonqualified Roth IRA distribution.
