Retirement tax questions
It sounds like you are referring to the import screen after starting the 1099-R topic. There are thousands of banks in the US, and only some are financial partners with TurboTax for importing purposes.
Are you at a page with a bunch of logos and there is a financial
institution search line, and it says to enter the name of your bank or
financial institution? And are you trying to enter the name of your
1099-R Payer there? That screen is only for importing from a TurboTax
participating import partner. If you are not importing the 1099-R
(don't want to or can't because your institution is not found), then don't enter anything there.
Instead,
scroll down to the bottom right and click on a gray button "I'll type
it in myself." That gray button may not be visible until you scroll
down.
The next screen will ask you to choose the "type of 1099-R".
Then the screen after that should be where you can enter the
Payer of your 1099-R.
