Retirement tax questions
You should be able to edit the forms. You should see a summary of 1099 entries where can you select a pencil, or edit/revisit.
Are you:
- using the substitute 1099-R form or
- are you making a regular 1099-R entry and using fake numbers for EIN, 99-9999000
- entering it as other income
You only need to enter your pension once. If you have it under other income to subtract it for the treaty, that is fine. Depending on your state, you want to enter it as a 1099-R rather than other income.
To revisit other income, go to the federal income section
- scroll to the bottom
- Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C, Start
- Scroll to the bottom
- Other reportable income, Start
- Other taxable income?
- Select YES
- you should be able to edit prior entries made in this section.
If you don't need the 1099-R, it can be deleted.
If you want to reply with the state and any particular concerns, we can help guide you.
