Retirement tax questions
Did you go through the retirement questions when you prepare the NE tax return? Go back through the NE interview in TurboTax. When you come to the screen that says Adjustments Decreasing Federal Income screen, scroll down to Military Retirement Pay Exclusion.
All military retirees may exclude 100% of the military retirement benefits from Nebraska taxable income, to the extent included in federal AGI.
Military retirement benefits attributable to service in uniformed services include military retirement benefits reported on federal Form 1099-R issued by either the U.S. Department of Defense or the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM).
Military retirees of the U.S. Coast Guard, an office of the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS), and an officer of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps (NOAA) may receive qualifying military retirement benefits. Retirement benefit income reported by a payor other than the U.S. Department of Defense or OPM qualifies for the exclusion.
