Retirement tax questions
dmertz
Just to reiterate regarding your comment that a military retirement is considered a "other qualifying plan" for this purpose...that is a fallacy. As i stated in my earlier post during my chat line with Turbo Tax expert she had me choose that option and it lead into RMD which for chuckles and grins we tried putting zero (would not accept) and then tried putting my entire retirement as the number which resulted in multiplying my amount of taxes due from $2000 to $53,000 (even though i had federal tax withholding taken from my retirement pay). so that is NOT the solution, workaround, or resolution
DoninCA..thank you for the response regarding a recognition on the part of Turbo Tax that there is an error in the program and "moderators" for development are trying to fix it. And it is interesting this only occurs during the on-line version, not the desktop version. And i hope as they fix it, they recognize it has nothing to do whether there is an alpha letter in Box 7 or not. My 1099-R is just a 7 for box 7. I also tried to scan it as well as manually enter the data. I don't know how long the fix will take to be developed so i've decided to NOT use Turbo Tax and i am going to a local CPA to do my taxes.
