Retirement tax questions
Is the amount of the "total insurance deduction" in Box 5 of your Form 1099-R? If so, you don't report that on your tax return. Box 5 is for information only. It usually shows the difference between Box 1 and Box 2a. If the insurance deduction amount is not in one of the boxes on the form, you don't enter it in TurboTax, as it is not reported on your tax return. It is informational.
