Retirement tax questions
As noted by @ dmertz with respect to a Form 1099-R reporting distributions split between a rollover to a traditional IRA and a rollover to a Roth IRA, you can split the Form 1099-R into two, one for the portion rolled over to the Roth IRA showing the after-tax portion distributed from the employer plan and the second one for the-pre-tax portion rolled over to the traditional IRA.
To enter the two separate 1099-Rs in TurboTax, sign into your TurboTax account and follow the steps below to enter each 1099-R separately:
- Sign into TurboTax and go to the income tab
- Click on 1099-R
- Enter the First 1099-R:
- Answer "Yes" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2024?" and click "Continue.
- Click on the Type of 1099r"
- Choose how you want to enter your 1099-R (select manually)
- Enter the details for the portion rolled over to the Roth IRA, including the after-tax portion distributed from the employer plan.
- Enter the Second 1099-R:
- After completing the first 1099-R, click "Add another 1099-R."
- Enter the details for the portion rolled over to the traditional IRA, including the pre-tax portion.
