Retirement tax questions
An update on my experience with Turbotax, 1099r hardcopies, and delayed refunds. I used Turbotax for my 2022 and 2023 taxes and filed early, before the end of January both years. In both years the IRS sent a letter a couple of weeks later asking for a hard copy of my 1099R. (I am retired and my pension is my primary income. ) Then it took most of the year for the IRS to review the 1099R, and I had to get my congressman involved just to receive my large refund in August (for 2022 taxes) and October (for 2023 taxes), which created a hardship for me. I had to take out loans both years to pay my property taxes, which I was hoping to use my refunds for. This year, for my 2024 taxes, I used Taxact instead of Turbotax. Taxact had me upload a copy of the 1099R as part of the process. I also waited to file until the third week of February. My federal refund has already been approved by the IRS according to wheres my refund. I should receive it by March 7th.
Obviously I am very happy with Taxact, and think Turbotax sucked big time, at least for my situation.
