Retirement tax questions

You may have a number of reporting requirements based on the amount that is passed to you.  However, none of these reports will result in tax due.

If your Israeli bank account value exceeds $10,000 for even one day in the year, you will need to file a Foreign Bank Account Report/FinCEN 114 or "FBAR".  This form can be filed within TurboTax.

If your foreign bank account (while living in the US) has more than $50,000 on the last day of the tax year, or $75,000 at any time for a single individual or $100,000 on the last day of the tax year or $150,000 at any time for a married taxpayer filing jointly, you will also file Form 8938, which is also available in TurboTax.

If the value of your inheritance exceeds $100,000 you must also file Form 3520 separate from your income tax filing forms when receiving gifts or bequests (inheritance) from foreign estates or nonresident alien individuals.) On this form, for an inheritance, you will complete your general information on the first page of the firm, and then complete Part IV, sign and date the return, and mail it to the address on the instructions.

You will file all of these using the same deadline (including extensions) as you have for your individual tax filings (generally April 15th or October 15th if you have timely filed an extension.)
