If you made contributions to an HSA (or HSA contributions were made on your behalf) for 2017 or you made distributions from an HSA in 2017, you cannot use the Free Edition since you must file on Form 1040. The Free Edition does not support Form 1040, only Form 1040EZ and 1040A.
