Retirement tax questions
You will need to review your entries in a few sections of TurboTax.
First, review the basic information under "Your info" to ensure you have indicated that you are a former member of the U.S. Armed Forces.
- This can be done by editing the section where your name is listed.
- Proceed through the screens until you see the screen titled "Let's check for some other situations."
- On this screen, select the box to the left of "I was a member or former member of the U.S. Armed Forces (active, reserve, or National Guard)."
- Mark the circle titled Former member (retired, veteran, etc.)
- Select continue.

Next, you will need to review the information entered under your retirement income. Follow these steps to reach the input section for your 1099-R.
- Select edit to the right of the applicable 1099-R form and proceed through the screens until you see the screen titled "Where is your distribution from?"
- Select the circle to the left of Federal government retirement benefits.
- Select continue to proceed.

Once you have completed the retirement questions, go to the state interview section of the program.
- Select continue on your Oregon state interview.
- Proceed through the screens until you see the page titled "IRA and Pension Distributions." (Select revisit to the right of this title if you see the page titled "Here's the income that Oregon handles differently.")
- Review the options here. This is the screen where the circle to the left of We received federal pension income for federal service before October 1, 1991 should be selected.
