Retirement tax questions
When I turned 65 in July 2024, I decided to retire from my job and take my deceased husbands Social Security. My social security did not get taxed since my earnings from Jan thru July was before I collected Social Security. I am now filing my taxes through Turbo Tax and now being forced to pay Federal Tax on my Social Security since my earnings are over the 'limit'. I was 99% sure that my total income from Jan-July would NOT count. It appears there's a disconnect between Social Security publications vs IRS Publications regarding starting social security mid year and not counting your working income prior to that.
