Retirement tax questions
I am no expert, but this appears to be a bug in the software, and from the replies I have read, it has been there for several years. Though this is the first time it has happened to me, it is probably due to my first use of supporting details in the Social Security form last year (2023) and then transferring the "information" in the first steps of a new return.
I have tested the deleting of the 'SS form' several times and when you then try to enter SS data in the Step-by-step afterwards, it makes a new SS form and allows you to enter your data. If you are hesitant to delete the form, then just delete the supporting details and leave the form alone. It may work, may not ... I didn't test that myself.
If you look at the forms list for a new return, the SS form is not there. Try to enter SS data and the form appears. So, as far as I can tell, deleting this particular form doesn't seem to be dangerous ... unless you forget to enter your SS data afterwards.
BTW, I have been curious if any recent updates have corrected this problem, and as of today (1/30/2025), it still exists.
