Retirement tax questions
Using Premier.
Excess accumulations are not supported in step-by-step nor by using forms to fill out 5329.
After following the IRS instructions TT will not allow me to enter the amount on line 55 .
Override does allow an entry, but TT then complains that tax on excess accumulation should not be overridden for electronic filing. And goes on to say that this prevents cross-checking. Of course now you can no longer e-file Federal or State taxes.
What strikes me as interesting is that TT was very helpful with the entries leading up to generating a value for line 55, it auto filled line 54 with the RC notation and even offered a special dialog box to enter the reasons for waiver. But after I checked the box indicating that I qualified for the 10% rate it did not calculate the amount nor allow me to enter it on line 55.
Also interesting is that after overriding I note that TT propagated the value to form 1040 line 8 and went on to recalculate the tax.
Support told me this is not supported and that I would have to mail everything.
I would say it only appears to be supported until you get to line 55.
