Social Security and Filing Jointly
I have the primary income. My wife only made about $4,200 for the year. However, she also began collecting Social Security as of January 2023. We have always done our taxes as "Married, Filing Jointly". I tried it that way this year, but as soon as I entered my wife's Social Security income Turbo Tax immediately deducted $2,000 from our Federal Return. Would it be better to file "Married, Individual"?
I tried to start over and test it "Individually", but it appears that it is still doing it "Jointly". In fact, now when I point to our 2022 return to pull in the information from our Joint return, it says "Import Unsuccessful."
Now I am stuck - My Joint return appears over taxed, my Individual Return appears to still be Joint, and I can't start another Test Return.
