Retirement tax questions
A distribution from a retirement account should be accompanied by a 1099-R reporting the distribution.
- If possible you should contact that employer and request the form.
- In the event you can not get a 1099-R, the income will still have to be reported.
To post the 1099-R
Select Wages & Income
- Scroll down and select IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)
- The screen should show Here's your 1099-R info
- At the bottom of the page click on [+ Add another 1099-R]
- You'll see Let's import your tax info
- Scroll to the bottom and select [Change how I enter my form]
- How would you like to upload your 1099-R?
- Say to [Type it myself]
- Who does this 1099-R belong to?
- Continue through the interview.
- You will come to the screen: Do any of these situations apply to you?
- Select I need to file a substitute 1099-R
