Retirement tax questions
To make sure OH recognizes the $1,300 on the 1099-MISC as income (and qualifies for the OH joint filing credit), please follow these steps to check your entries on the federal side:
- Click Federal Taxes > Wages and Income > Other Common Income.
- Click the Start/Revisit box next to Form 1099-MISC.
- On the screen, Does one of these uncommon situations apply? mark None of these apply.
- On the next screen, Did the [business] involve work that's like [your husband's] main job? mark Yes and click Continue.
- When asked if you had any expenses related to the work, say NO (otherwise you'll have to upgrade to the Self-Employed edition.
Once you've checked the entries for the 1099-MISC on the federal side go into your OH return and go through the interview again.
In OH there is a new business credit, and you may qualify for it because the $1,300 is business income. his might work out better for you than the joint filing credit, but TurboTax will calculate both for you.
