Thank you for the info regarding Pub 590-B. I found it interesting that it allows dirty IRAs to be used as basis in the reported tax year, and the 8606 instructions suspend it as basis until the next tax year. Also, since I use both TurboTax and TaxSlayer, TT does it the 590-B way and TS does it the 8606 way.
