I was receiving SSA spousal support before my retirement in December 2020 and SSA continued to pay me until November last year and then told me to refund the money at the end of December. I paid back the money but they only processed the refund in January 2022 and I have received a copy of SSA 1099 with the total money I received last year but the money refund wasn't included in BOX 4.
I called them and was told to received another SSA 1099 and that never came. I called a second time and another told me the Tax form I received was correct as the refund was made in 2022. Later, I called the local office and told the lady that I could not use the tax as that would bring me into a higher tax bracket as well as paying extra Medicare premium. The lady said I would receive an adjustment form within 3 weeks.
I couldn't finish my Tax Return now as the form is pending. Does anyone of you have encounter this problem? Do you think I would get a corrected SSA 1099 as the last said while another said something different?
