I'm running into the same problem. I did figure out that if I answer the TT question that asks if it's a distribution or a contribution wrongly (i.e. I check the box that says it's a contribution) then the income does show up on Line 1a of the 1040. Looks like your post is a month old - have you heard of anyone addressing this (either TT or IRS?)
