Retirement tax questions
On a joint tax return, it is important that forms 1099-R be attributable to the correct spouse.
You can enter your form 1099-R by following these steps:
- In TurboTax, open your tax return
- Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Wages & Income
- Continue and locate the section Retirement Plans and Social Security and click on Show more
- Click Start next to IRAs, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R)

When entering each form 1099-R, there is a page titled Who does this 1099-R belongs to?. Please make sure that you click on the first name of the spouse the 1099-R belongs to.
